  At the conclusion of this course, students will: ∙ Be informed of the recent history of science-based interviewing methods, including how these methods improve upon prior practices. ∙ Understand the fundamentals of human memory and its relationship to science-based interviewing. ∙ Understand that rapport-building will more effectively overcome resistance than control- or fear-based approaches. ∙ Understand that open-ended questions yield more information from interviewees than closed-ended questions. ∙ Be informed that verbal cues to deception are more accurate than non-verbal ones. ∙ Understand the importance of planning and preparation prior to conducting an interview.
