STREET GANGSundefinedPREVENTION/INTERVENTION

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida and the Center for Public Safety Innovation at St. Petersburg College are pleased to announce that the Project Safe Neighborhoods Violent Gang and Gun Crime Reduction Program will conduct a one-day class on Street Gangs. There is no fee or cost to attend the training.
This tuition-free eight-hour course is designed for law enforcement officers, educational personnel and community members to acquaint them with what draws people to join gangs and what can be done to prevent or intervene in that process. Emphasis will be placed on officer safety issues and information/intelligence gathering by patrol officers.
When and Where:
The training event will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at the Falkenburg Road Jail Assembly Room, 520 North Falkenburg Road, Tampa, FL 33619. Please note that this is a RESTRICTED ACCESS JAIL FACILITYundefinedNO FIREARMS PERMITTED. Parking is on the north side of the facility in the gravel/shell parking lot. Dress is business casual. Instructors:
Inspector Harold Rochon is the Commanding Officer in charge of the 5thPrecinct of the Detroit Police Department. He previously served as the Commanding Officer of the Detroit PD Narcotics Division, as well as the Commanding Officer of the Detroit PD/FBI Violent Crimes Task Force. He has worked as an investigator and as a supervisor in various gang task forces since 1986 and has been providing gang instruction throughout the United States since 1990. He is also a member of the Midwest Gang Investigators Association.

Ken Bell is a 36-year law enforcement veteran serving his first 25 years with the Los Angeles, CA Sheriff’s Department, then 11 years with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigations, where he was assigned to the “Hard Core Gang Unit.” Ken is a nationally recognized street gang expert and was the subject of a 2007 BET television documentary titled “American Gangster.” He continues to train and consult for law enforcement agencies, school personnel, community and parent groups on gang issues.
